Welcome to Slokarji
A small hamlet in the Vipava Valley, at the foot of Mt. Čaven — right on the route many hikers and cyclists take up into the Trnovski gozd plateau.
Getting here / passing through
Slokarji sits on the only road connecting the Vipava Valley floor to Predmeja and the Trnovski gozd plateau — a 7 km mountain road with three tunnels, climbing about 680 m. If you're cycling or hiking up to Čaven (1242 m) or the Otlica Window (Otliško okno), you'll very likely pass right through the village.
What to see nearby
A short circular walking route around the village (about 3.5 km, 175 m of ascent) starts and ends in Lokavec — you'll find it drawn on the interactive map on our main page. A few historic sights worth a short stop:
- Graparjeva žaga — an old water-powered sawmill, once one of several along the Lokavšček stream
- Remains of a WWI military ropeway — concrete foundations from a cableway that once supplied the front above the village
- The Bajer — the village pond, a popular local swimming and gathering spot in summer
Further afield
From the area, marked trails continue to Mt. Čaven and its mountain hut (Koča Antona Bavčerja, 1242 m), and to the Otlica Window, a natural rock window with views over the whole valley.
